Maltese table football athletes delivered an impressive performance over the weekend at the Messina Grand Prix, dominating across multiple categories and once again making their mark on the international stage.
Among the standout performers was Robert Farrugia Randon, who claimed victory in both Under 16 and Under 20 categories without suffering a single defeat. In the U16 final, Randon convincingly beat Daniele Salatino 5–2, and followed up with a 5–3 win over Nicolo Colossi in the U20 final.
In the Veterans category, Mario Camilleri reached the final, narrowly losing to Italian Pasquale Torano. Teammates Jason Pisani and Massimo Cremona advanced to the semifinals and quarterfinals respectively, while John Zammit made it to the last 16. Stanley Farrugia Randon, Walter Attard, Emanuel Camilleri, and Valentino Zamara were eliminated in the group stage.
The Open category saw George Ebejer reach the quarterfinals and Spencer Conti progress to the last 16. Isaac Sam Camilleri made it to the barrage round, while Mario Fleri Soler was knocked out in the group phase.
A major highlight came in the team competition, where Bormla Subbuteo Club triumphed once again, defeating Serie A side Barcelona CT 2–1 after extra time. The victorious Bormla team included Josef Camilleri, George Ebejer, Jason Pisani, Wolfgang Hass, and Christian Haas.
The participation and continued success of Maltese athletes abroad is made possible thanks to the support of SportMalta and the Malta Olympic Committee, whose assistance in international travel and competition logistics remains invaluable.
