Historic silver medal for Bormla Subbuteo Club at the ECSTFA Champions League
Bormla Subbuteo Club has achieved a milestone in Maltese table football history, claiming a historic silver medal at the ECSTFA Champions League after an outstanding run that saw them reach the final of the prestigious European competition.
In a thrilling final, Bormla were narrowly defeated 1–3 by Italian powerhouse Frat. Bari Reggio Emilia, who captured their tenth Champions League title. For Bormla, this marked their first-ever podium finish in the tournament — an extraordinary achievement among 19 elite clubs representing Malta, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Greece, and Great Britain.
Founded in 2009, Bormla Subbuteo Club has steadily risen through the ranks of European competition. After finishing fifth last year, this season’s silver medal represents their best result to date in 12 participations in the tournament.

The Road to the Final
Bormla topped Group A in dominant fashion, winning all five of their matches:
- 3–1 vs Hennuyer B (Belgium)
- 4–0 vs Issy/Boss (France)
- 3–0 vs Bologna Tigers (Italy)
- 2–1 vs Fiamme Azzurre Roma (Italy)
- 4–0 vs Yorkshire Phoenix (England)
In the quarter-final, Bormla continued their momentum with a 3–0 win over Stembert (Belgium).
In the semi-final, they edged past local rivals Valletta SC (Malta) on goal difference after a 2–2 draw, booking their place in the final and securing a historic silver medal for the club and for Maltese subbuteo.
The Team Behind the Success
The silver-winning squad featured:
Charlie Aquilina, Jason Pisani, George Ebejer, Jean Carl Tabone, Bessim Golger (Belgium), and David Bermudez Gonzalez (Spain).
Their teamwork, determination, and consistent performances across all stages of the tournament were key to Bormla’s historic achievement.
Looking Ahead
Bormla Subbuteo Club now turns its focus to upcoming events — the Bormla International Open in November, followed by the Bologna Major in December — as they aim to build on their European success.
