Bormla Subbuteo Club began the 2025–2026 season in the same dominant fashion they ended the previous one — by clinching victory at the prestigious International Grand Prix of Estepa, Spain.
In a thrilling final, Bormla SC overcame Murcia (Spain) after a 2–2 draw, winning the title thanks to a superior four-goal advantage. Competing among 16 elite teams, Bormla displayed exceptional form throughout the tournament.
In Group 1, they recorded a perfect run with three victories:
- 4–0 vs Remedios AC (Spain)
- 3–1 vs Subbuteo Sombrero (Italy)
- 2–1 vs Mallorca Águilas (Spain)
Their winning momentum continued in the knockout stages — defeating Tiburones FM (Spain) 4–0 in the quarter-finals and Dragons SC (Spain) 3–1 in the semi-finals — before lifting the trophy in Estepa.
This triumph marks Bormla SC’s fourth consecutive international title, following earlier wins in Messina, and the Majors in Athens and Germany. The club continues to assert its dominance at the top of the FISTF World Team Rankings, where it has held the number one position for over 16 months.
Last season, Bormla SC celebrated an extraordinary campaign, winning five Grand Prix titles (Caen, Eugies, Vienna, Messina, and Ludwigsburg), two International Opens (Mechelen and Malta), and the Major of Athens, appearing on the podium in 8 out of 20 international tournaments.
The 2025–2026 season has now kicked off with yet another remarkable victory — this time in Estepa, the training hub of the Spanish national Subbuteo team.
The winning squad in Spain featured:
- Charlie Aquilina (Captain)
- George Ebejer
- David Bermúdez González (Spain)
- Josef Camilleri

Their next challenge will be the Grand Prix of Eugies, Belgium, next weekend.
In the Individual Open Category, Bormla’s David Bermúdez González claimed gold after defeating teammate George Ebejer in a captivating final. González led 2–0 before Ebejer’s strong comeback leveled the match at 2–2, but González sealed victory 3–2 in the final moments. In the semi-finals, González edged out Sérgio Ramos (Portugal) 2–1, while Ebejer triumphed 3–2 over Ángel Valverde (Spain) after a tense shootout.
Meanwhile, Josef Camilleri reached the quarter-finals, narrowly losing 1–2 to Sérgio Ramos, while Charles Aquilina also reached the last eight, falling 0–1 to eventual winner John Field.
In total, Bormla Subbuteo Club returned from Spain with two gold medals and one silver — an impressive start to the new season.
