Maltese players delivered a standout showing at the Grand Prix of Rain in Germany over the weekend, claiming the Open, Veterans and Team titles.
Samuel Bartolo won the Open category, edging Austria’s Wolfgang Haas (Bormla SC) 3–2 in the final. Team-mate Jurgen Balzan reached the semi-finals before bowing out to the eventual champion.
In the Veterans event, Mario Camilleri prevailed 3–2 after extra time against Erich Hinkelmann to secure the title.
Valletta Subbuteo Club completed the clean sweep by taking the Team competition, defeating TSC Royal 78 Kaisermuhlen 2–1 in the final. Valletta’s line-up featured Jurgen Balzan, Samuel Bartolo, Derek Conti and Kurt Polidano.
The Maltese contingent’s participation was supported by SportMalta and the Maltese Olympic Committee.
