During the Annual General Meeting of the Malta Billiards & Snooker Association (MBSA), held on Friday, Ivan Brincat was once again confirmed as president. He received unanimous support in a free vote from all members present.
This year, there were no elections for any of the roles. The MBSA executive committee for the next two years will include:
- Ivan Brincat – President
- Joseph Zerafa – Vice President
- Lothar Mallia – Secretary General
- Richard Sheridan – Financial Secretary
- Tommy Cunningham – Public Relations Officer (PRO)
- Ivan Attard and Isaac Borg – Committee Members
- Joseph Casha and Philip Ciantar – Player Representatives
- Charles Vella – Referee Representative
Several important decisions were taken during the meeting, all of which were agreed upon by the members. The most notable decision is that the MBSA will apply for membership in the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF). Once accepted, Malta will be a member of all major international snooker organisations. At the moment, Malta is already a member of the World Snooker Federation (WSF) and the European Billiards & Snooker Association (EBSA). Joining the IBSF will open up more opportunities for Maltese players to compete in international events organised by this federation.
Other decisions taken will impact local competitions. Starting this season, additional ranking tournaments will be introduced specifically for the Masters category (players over 40) and the Junior category (players under 21).
Another important change is that the men’s final of the Premier Division, the highlight of the season, will now be played over two consecutive days as a best-of-19-frames match, instead of the usual best-of-11.

In the coming weeks, the MBSA will take part in two international events. The first is the International Challenge Cup, taking place between 18 and 20 September in Dunkerque, France. This will be followed by the European Championships, to be held in Golem, Albania, between 4 and 19 October.
