Rangers handed Celtic their first home league defeat since December 2023 with a dramatic 3-2 victory, sealed by Hamza Igamane’s stunning late goal.
Fresh off securing a place in the Europa League quarter-finals, Rangers dominated the first half and took a deserved lead through Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande. However, Celtic fought back in the second half, with Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate scoring to bring the hosts level.
Just when it looked like Celtic might go on to win, Igamane came off the bench to smash home the winner in the 88th minute, securing Rangers’ first victory at Celtic Park since 2020.
Despite the win, Rangers are unlikely to change the title race, as Celtic still lead by 13 points with eight games left. However, this famous result could boost Barry Ferguson’s chances of being appointed Rangers’ permanent manager.
Rangers showed no signs of fatigue after their gruelling Europa League clash against Fenerbahce, starting strongly. Raskin headed in from James Tavernier’s corner after just four minutes to put them ahead. Vaclav Cerny had a golden chance to double the lead after a mistake by Kasper Schmeichel, but Maik Nawrocki cleared the danger.
Rangers did get their second goal before half-time when Raskin nodded the ball into Diomande’s path, and the midfielder fired home in the 37th minute.
Celtic responded immediately after the break, with Maeda heading in from Jota’s cross to get them back into the game. The momentum shifted, and Hatate steered in Luke McCowan’s pass 16 minutes from time, making Celtic look like the likely winners.
But there was one final twist. Igamane, who was called up to Morocco’s senior squad this week, ended an 11-game goal drought with a powerful finish, securing a huge win for Rangers and a moment to remember in Ferguson’s first Old Firm derby in charge.
