Nils van der Poel set the world record in the 10,000-meter speed skating race

Nils van der Poel, a Swedish speed skater won the gold medal in the 10,000-meter race at the Beijing Winter Olympics, breaking a world record.

He has held the world record before, and set it last year in the Netherlands.

The new record is 12 minutes and 30.74 seconds.

Nils’ gold medal marks Sweden’s first Olympic medal in the 10,000-meter section in 34 years.
