New Zealand’s Lisa Carrington once again illuminated the nautical arena at Vaires-sur-Marne on Friday when she secured her seventh Olympic gold medal in a commanding fashion alongside Alicia Hoskin in the women’s kayak double 500m event.
In a day filled with intense competition and nail-biting finishes, the New Zealanders surged ahead in the final race, leaving their competitors trailing behind as Carrington extended her golden streak, following her previous victory in the kayak four category on Thursday.

“It’s quite surreal right now and will likely require some time to fully comprehend, but my passion lies in paddling and I have immense love for this team. That feeling can never be surpassed,” expressed Carrington, who is 35 years old.
The victorious time of 1:37.28 was more than two seconds quicker than the silver medallists from Hungary, Tamara Csipes and Alida Dora Gazso. The official outcome of the race was determined after a nerve-wracking period of anticipation for the remaining competitors.
