ICMG Coordination Commission reviews progress of Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games

Prishtina took centre stage in the Mediterranean sports movement as the Coordination Commission of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games (ICMG) conducted an official visit to the host city of the 2030 Mediterranean Games from 27 to 29 July 2025.

The visit was led by ICMG Executive Committee member and Chair of the Prishtina 2030 Coordination Commission, Mr. Julian Pace Bonello, accompanied by ICMG Secretary General Mr. Iakovos Filippousis. Over the two-day mission, the delegation held high-level meetings with key national and local stakeholders to assess the status of preparations for what will be the largest sporting event ever held in Kosovo.

Meetings were held with Kosovo Olympic Committee (NOC Kosovo) President Ismet Krasniqi and Secretary General Besim Aliti, as well as top officials from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, including Minister of Finance Mr. Hekuran Murati and Deputy Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports Ms. Daulina Osmani. The delegation also met with the Mayor of Prishtina, Mr. Përparim Rama, as discussions centred on the operational framework, infrastructural progress, and institutional support needed to successfully deliver the Games.

A key outcome of the visit was the confirmation of the establishment of the Organising Committee “OCMG” Prishtina 2030. This committee will include representatives from the Kosovo Olympic Committee, the Government of Kosovo, and the Municipality of Prishtina. It will be chaired by NOC President Ismet Krasniqi and tasked with coordinating all efforts to deliver the Games to international standards.

The Government of Kosovo reaffirmed its full commitment to the Games, both in terms of policy and long-term financial backing, as outlined in the original candidature file. Ministerial representatives emphasised that the Mediterranean Games are the most ambitious sporting project in the country’s history, with a transformative impact expected across sports infrastructure, tourism, and youth engagement.

Mayor Përparim Rama echoed this commitment on behalf of the capital city, underlining Prishtina’s readiness to invest in the required facilities and services to host more than 15,000 visitors during the Games.

The Coordination Commission will submit a detailed report on the progress and findings of the visit at the upcoming ICMG Executive Committee meeting scheduled for 28 November 2025 in Portimão, Portugal.

The following day, on 29 November, the Prishtina 2030 Organising Committee will present the latest updates and the official Master Plan of the Games to the wider ICMG family during the ICMG Extraordinary General Assembly, further cementing Kosovo’s growing role on the international sporting stage.
