Global prize money pot of €21,200 for Tazza l-Kbira 2025

The BOV Tazza l-Kbira, Malta’s most prestigious race in the local trotting calendar is this year boasting an entire field of premier class horses making their way to the starting line.

This year’s edition, once again sponsored by Bank of Valletta, will feature 79 Premier Class Trotters, showcasing the best of local and international talent. The fleet will feature past Tazza l-Kbira winners Crack Money and Dreamer Boy as well as Velvet Gio, who won the President’s Cup in 2024, and Akela Play, winner of the Sette Giugno Cup for the past 2 years. 24 of these horses will be debuting in Malta in the BOV Tazza l-Kbira.

Tracing its history back to 1934 and always growing in stature and popularity, the 2025 race promises to be a spectacular event, with 7 heats being held between the 15th and the 16th March. The first five placings in each heat will head to the 3 semi-finals being held in the two race meetings of the 30th and the 31st March. The first four horses in each semi-final will then qualify for the Grand Final of the 13th of April 2025.

“The overwhelming response from horse owners and trainers is a testament to the ever-growing horse racing community in Malta as well as the popularity of the BOV Tazza l-Kbira,” said Charles Azzopardi, Head CSR at Bank of Valletta. “At BOV, we firmly believe that Sport is an essential element of a healthy community, and we are proud to be associated with this prestigious event. We take this opportunity to wish all the participants success throughout the events related to the BOV Tazza l-Kbira.”

“The BOV Tazza l-Kbira is more than just a race, it is a celebration of tradition, performance excellence, and the close historical bond between man and horse,” said Malta Equidrome President Matthew Brincat. “Besides the spectacle on the track, the Final will feature the traditional parade as well as an entertainment programme for all present at the Marsa racetrack.”

This collaboration between Bank of Valletta and Malta Equidrome, besides the racing spectacle, also carries a global prize money pot of €21,200.
