Ukraine dominate Malta 9-1 in EuroHockey championship III clash

Ukraine produced an emphatic performance to defeat Malta 9-1 in a EuroHockey Championship III group-stage encounter, underlining their credentials as serious contenders for promotion in the competition.

From the outset, Ukraine established control of the match, pressing high and maintaining consistent attacking pressure. The Ukrainian side broke the deadlock early and never looked back, overwhelming the Maltese defence with pace and precision.

Oleksandr Solomianyi was the standout performer, registering a hat-trick to lead his team’s charge. Ukraine’s captain, Dmytro Luppa, also got on the scoresheet, along with Vitalii Shevchuk, Oleksii Popov, Vladyslav Tsymbaliuk, and Rostyslav Yakovenko. Their goals came from a mix of open play and penalty corners, demonstrating the team’s well-rounded attacking approach.

Malta managed to pull one back through experienced forward Alessandro Amore, who capitalized on a rare attacking opportunity to score his side’s only goal. Despite the scoreline, the Maltese team showed moments of determination and structure, particularly in the second half, but they struggled to cope with Ukraine’s relentless offensive rhythm.

This result marks a significant step forward for Ukraine in the group standings, positioning them strongly in their bid to advance further in the tournament. For Malta, the focus will now shift to regrouping and learning from the experience as they prepare for their remaining fixtures.

Malta, who are still developing at this level, will hope to bounce back and build on the positives, including their improved structure in the final quarter. Their attention now turns to the final two group matches:

  • Tuesday – Malta 🆚 Bulgaria
  • Wednesday – Malta 🆚 Hungary
