The 2028 Olympics are contemplating a fresh golf format, a sport that has recently made a comeback in the Olympic lineup. Organizers are examining a mixed team format where esteemed male and female golfers would join forces to compete for their respective nations.
As per Antony Scanlon, the Executive Director of the International Golf Federation, there is substantial support for this format. As stated in Golf Monthly, he expressed, “By the beginning of next year, they should finalize the decision regarding which events will be included in the LA program.
“We are hopeful that they will approve the mixed event, considering there is no need for additional athletes or resources, particularly given the backing from the organizing committee.”
Scanlon also observed that prominent male and female professional golfers are in favor of this concept. All golf competitions in the 2028 Olympics will be held at one of the most iconic venues: Riviera Country Club, which presently hosts the PGA Tour’s Genesis Invitational. The proposed submission outlines 16 pairs competing over 36 holes, featuring rounds of foursomes and four-ball better ball. Each nation would typically field one team to ensure widespread representation.
