The National Amateur League II continued over the weekend with Victoria Hotspurs notching up another big victory as they continue their 100% run
Mdina Knights 0 Siggiewi 0
Both Mdina and Siggiewi were looking for some points to continue hauling themselves up the table although realistically neither has any chance for a promotion spot. The Kinights were coming from a slender victory over fellow strugglers Ta Xbiex whilst Siggiewi lost heavily against Kalkara.
Siggiewi created the first chance of the match after 24 minutes when Tyrone Grech had an angled shot that was well parried by Yan Galea. Mdina replied on the half hour when Kane Micallef saw his effort pass just wide of the post. Ryan Grech also had a superb effort from just outside the box that also ended up just wide.
The second half was a poor affair with neither side creating any meaningful opportunities. In the end a 0-0 scoreline was a fair result.
Dingli Swallows 3 Santa Venera Lightnings 1
Dingli Swallows acquired a precious three points against bottom club Santa Venera Lightnings winning by three goals to one. The Lightnings gave a good performance and only suffered the winning goals a few minutes from time.
Dingli went ahead ahead on the half hour mark courtesy of their lanky striker Daley Ronaldinho who converted from the penalty spot. However, Santa Venera equalised just at the beginning of the second half through a fine effort by Ian Caruana. Dingli continued pressing forward and managed to retake the lead on 85 minutes through substitute Jason Camilleri. Two minutes, Dylan Attard sealed the points for the Swallows.
Victoria Hotspurs 6 Ta’ Xbiex 1
Victoria Hotspurs were expected to continue their 100% record against second from bottom Ta’ Xbiex. After 4 minutes the Hotspurs opened the scoring through Shaun Attard who was presented with a simple tap in. Three minutes later it was 2-0, a header by Kurt Borg.
Rondinley scored Victoria’s third with another tap in on 16 minutes as the match was turning into the expected rout. However, the fourth goal did not arrive until the 52nd minute with another excellent shot by Roberto Rondinely who grabbed his brace. The fifth goal came on the hour mark when substitute Jason Pace scored from close range.
Ta’ Xbiex managed a consolation goal on 61 minutes when Gian Carlo Sammut shot home with a great effort. The sixth goal for Victoria came courtesy of Kurt Borg who also grabbed his brace.
St George’s 2 Ghaxaq 0
St George’s registered another important victory in their quest for promotion when they defeated struggling Ghaxaq by two goals, one in each half. Kurt Zahra opened the scoring with a fine effort just a minute before half time. The second goal came on 56 minutes through a penalty converted by Matthew Robert Gauci. Ghaxaq could have reduced the deficit in stoppage time but veteran Aaron Agius saw his effort saved by the Pioneers’ goalie Clyde Caruana.
