Francesco Bagnaia wins the Austrian Grand Prix

Francesco Bagnaia wins the Austrian GP in MotoGP and also secures the top spot in the World Championship on his own.

His rival, Jorge Martin, finishes second with Pramac, after unsuccessfully trying to keep up with the unstoppable pace of the Italian from Ducati throughout the race. Enea Bastianini takes the third spot on the podium, riding the second Desmosedici from the official team. On the other hand, Marc Marquez, starting from the front row, encounters a technical issue at the start. He makes contact with Franco Morbidelli, goes wide in the first corner, but manages to make an impressive comeback to finish in fourth place. Bagnaia now holds a 5-point advantage over Martin in the standings.

The race, held on a dry track with a slight threat of rain in the final laps, sees Martin leading at the start as the pole-sitter. However, Bagnaia closely shadows him, not allowing him any breathing room, and quickly overtakes him on the second lap. The decisive move happens at the braking zone of the first corner and leaves Martin heartbroken.

Bagnaia takes the lead and intends to hold onto it, despite the Spanish rider’s immediate attempt to respond at turn 9, which is swiftly countered. Until the 13th lap, the two riders stay close, with a gap of no more than half a second, but then Bagnaia shifts gears and becomes untouchable.
