Claudio Azzopardi handed task to revamp internal structures of the ASA

Azzopardi had sent an email to President Izzo stating he was resigning from his post as Operations Manager

The ASA, the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, announced a review of its division of duties amongst its enlarged team. The ASA confirmed that Claudio Azzopardi has now been assigned new responsibilities to better align with his personal and professional qualities. Earlier this year Azzopardi had encountered administrative issues and had sent a letter of resignation. His resignation from the post of Operations Manager was discussed at length by the ASA officials and a mediation agreement was reached recently.

Mr. Azzopardi will now take on a new and key role within the ASA. Sources to this site can conform that he has now been entrusted with the critical task of leading the drafting of much-needed changes to the Water competition rules, disciplinary code, and the overall structure of the association with special focus on Water polo.

As part of this initiative, Mr. Azzopardi will start to meet with all ASA clubs, committees, and stakeholders to develop a comprehensive strategy that addresses the evolving needs of the Association. The recent disciplinary case involving Ben Plumpton seems to have prompted the ASA boss Izzo to take this path.

This strategic plan, which will take a holistic approach to the development of the ASA, is expected to be finalised and unveiled next year, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of the association. The ASA in a social media post sad that it was confident that this initiative will lay a strong foundation for its continued success and growth in the years to come.

In addition to these changes, the ASA said that it welcomed on board Mr. Charles Portelli and Mr. Aurelien Cousin to the ASA Administrative team. Their addition further strengthens the organisation in handling its ever increasing work load, and continues to reflect the ASA’s ongoing commitment to excellence in sports administration.
