The Malta Veterans national team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over their Welsh counterparts on Saturday afternoon in the prestigious Gary Speed Memorial Cup.
Played in honour of the late Welsh football legend, the encounter was marked by intensity and mutual respect, as both sides showed their enduring class and passion for the game.
The decisive moment came midway through the second half when Ian Zammit coolly converted a penalty, sealing the win for Malta in what proved to be a tightly contested battle. Despite Wales pressing for an equaliser in the latter stages, Malta’s defence held firm to preserve the clean sheet and claim the historic win.
The Maltese side was led by Coach Joe Micallef, with Malcolm Camilleri, President of the Malta Veterans Association, serving as Head of Delegation.
