Juana Cauchi has made history by becoming the first Maltese female Water polo referee to be certified by European Aquatics, marking it a milestone achievement for Aquatic Sports in Malta.
Ms.Cauchi recently participated in the European Aquatics Referees School, which was held online on the 10th of May 2025 and in Istanbul, Turkey, from 21st to 25th May 2025. The intensive program brought together aspiring referees from across the continent for an in-depth theoretical and practical training. Juana successfully completed all required examinations, earning her International Certification.
This prestigious qualification enables Ms.Cauchi to officiate at major European events governed by European Aquatics, reinforcing Malta’s growing presence on the global stage in Aquatic Sports.
“I’m incredibly honored and proud to represent Malta,” said Ms.Cauchi. “This achievement is not just personal—it’s a step forward for women in sport and for the entire Aquatic community in Malta.”
The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta and the Malta Water polo Referee Association congratulated Juana on her success, calling it a “significant development for the sport and an inspiration for future generations of referees”.
