Malta Triathlon Federation holds first 2026 tryouts to monitor athlete development

The Malta Triathlon Federation (MTF) successfully held the first of three planned tryouts for the 2026 season on 11 March 2026. The session is part of the federation’s ongoing programme to monitor athletes and support the development of triathlon talent in Malta.

The tryouts were supervised by MTF Development Manager Michelle Vella Wood together with Technical Official Charles Muscat. The aim of these sessions is to assess athlete performance and track their progress as part of the sport’s structured development pathway.

The tryouts provide an important benchmark for athletes in different categories. By measuring key performance indicators and improvements over time, the federation can better understand how athletes are progressing in their training and preparing for competition.

The results collected during these sessions will help guide several important selection decisions throughout the season. This includes choosing athletes for the Youth Development Squad and the Senior Performance Squad, which are key steps in Malta’s high-performance triathlon pathway.

The tryouts will also help determine which athletes qualify for Age Group international competitions. Performances will be considered when selecting athletes to represent Malta at major upcoming events, including the Mediterranean Games taking place in Taranto in August 2026.
