Sliema Aquatic Sports Club emerged victorious at the COOP Services National Short Course Championships 2025/26, delivering an outstanding performance despite competing with a squad of just 49 swimmers.
Across the three-day championships, Sliema ASC demonstrated consistency, depth and resilience, amassing an impressive haul of 31 gold medals. The campaign was further highlighted by a series of record-breaking swims and numerous personal best performances throughout the squad.
Several members of the club’s elite squad made history during the championships. Sasha Gatt set a new national record in the 400m freestyle, posting a time of 4:10.92. Matthew Satariano also rewrote the record books, clocking 4:20.56 to establish a new national mark in the 400m individual medley. Meanwhile, Sophia Allen broke the Age Group D record in the same event, finishing in 5:04.19.
The success comes just months after the introduction of a new coaching structure at the club, underlining the immediate impact of the revamped setup. The results reflect Sliema ASC’s continued commitment to high-performance swimming and the development of elite talent at the national level.
