Maltese drivers take part in several overseas motor sport events with huge success

Over the weekend several Maltese drivers participated in motor sport events overseas.

our very own Duncan Micallef represented Malta in the Highest Class of the 2nd Round of the 2024 FIA European Drag Racing Championship. Racing his Top Fuel Dragster at Tierp Arena in Sweden, Micallef delivered an outstanding performance, finishing the 1000 feet in a remarkable 3.79 seconds. This stellar performance catapulted Duncan to the top of the championship leaderboard with 124 points. We eagerly await his next race, the 3rd round of the championship, the Scandinavian Internationals, also at Tierp Arena.

At Circuito Vincenza Ispica, four talented Maltese Karting Drivers, Kimi Bugeja, Zane Pace, Eli Xuereb and Trevor Muscat, showcased their skills. Zane Pace emerged as the star of the day, clinching the first position in the GR3 under ten category. Kimi Bugeja also put up a commendable performance, securing the 2nd place in the same category. Despite facing tough competition, Eli Xuereb secured 6th position in the GR3 over 10 category. Trevor Muscat, unfortunately, had to halt his race due to technical difficulties, but his determination was evident.

Nicky Gauci raced in the 5th round of the Rotax Max Challenge Italia in Franciacorta, Italy. This was Gauci’s first race on this track in Lombardy, north of Italy. Out of the 41 drivers, Gauci qualified for the final to start in P22; during the final, he advanced to P10, placing in the top 10 out of 41 drivers.

Offroad Driver Neville Ciantar and his son Navigator Lee Ciantar, representing the indomitable Nusu Racing Team, took on the challenge of the King Of France off-road racing competition. The team stood strong despite facing fierce competition from teams across Europe, including the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Portugal, and France. They encountered various issues during the event, including an accident with a competitor and the need to change a tyre during the race. These setbacks cost them precious time, but they persevered and finished in 11th place, a testament to their resilience and unwavering determination.
