Steve Martin wins Super Championship Title in boxing classic against Scott Dixon

Steve Martin won the highly anticipated boxing fight of the weekend when he won the Cintorin Super Championship Title in a wonderful bout against Scott Dixon.

It was a fight that took place in front of one of the biggest crowds that local boxing has ever seen, with Steve Martin and Scott Dixon giving a boxing show with 12 rounds of 3 minutes each.

Steve Martin who the day before weighed 1.6kg less than Dixon in the Weighing-in as usual started slowly and controlled the opponent.

But from the third round onwards the boxers started giving each other several body shots and started trying to take the reins of the bout. Towards the 5th and 6th round Steve Martin managed to drop Dixon who later recovered well. Martin was later penalized by the referee Edwin Micallef with that round going to Dixon. From there Steve Martin continued to be consistent with various upper cuts and perfect combinations. Despite being 10 years older, Scott Dixon tried to lead to the last round and he also had his moments when he started to get close on the Maltese boxer.

So that at the end of the 12 scheduled rounds the result went in favor of Steve Martin with a unanimous decision of the judges.

In the Fight Island evening organized by Project360 there were several other fights including; the one between Scott ‘Flakey’ Schembri against Shayon Spiteri won by the debutant Schembri and the one between Andriy John against Nizar Gweleg won by the latter. These two boxers Scott Schembri and Andriy John were making their absolute debut in a challenge so that in a year both of them try to switch the status to professional boxers.

In the only fight in the women’s boxing evening, a draw resulted between Clara Bezzina and Chloe Smith who fought over 4 x 2 minute rounds.
