In life, we all experience moments that leave a lasting impact. For 29-year-old architect Luca Zarb, that moment came in 2018, when he lost his uncle to cancer.
Watching a loved one go through illness is never easy, but the care and compassion provided by Hospice Malta during this time deeply moved and inspired him.
“This organisation has been a lifeline for many families, offering palliative care and emotional support to patients and their loved ones. In 2018, I saw firsthand the incredible work Hospice Malta does,” Luca explained.

SevenxSeven Campaign
Luca’s experience with loss led him to create the SevenxSeven Campaign – a challenge to run seven marathons (42.2km) over seven days. The campaign will begin on 21st December and will test both physical strength and mental resilience.
Over the course of seven days, Luca will focus on raising awareness of Hospice Malta’s work, while aiming to raise €10,000 for the charity.
“Hospice Malta relies entirely on donations, and I hope this campaign encourages others to give back. Many families in Malta have been affected by cancer, and by donating, we can make a real difference,” Luca said.
The funds raised will help maintain Hospice Malta’s St. Michael’s facility in St. Venera, where specialised care is provided under one roof. Beyond financial support, the campaign also aims to raise awareness of the vital role Hospice Malta plays in the community.
Preparing for the Challenge
Luca has been active in sports since a young age, but this is his first time taking on such a huge challenge. Balancing his job, daily life, and intensive training, along with making changes to his diet, has been the most difficult part.
“The hardest part will be looking after my body. I’ve never done anything this big before,” Luca admits. “Recovery, nutrition, and mental focus will be key.”
The support from his family, friends, and Hospice Malta has kept Luca motivated and focused on his goal. His main objective is to finish the challenge. “If I need to, I will walk. The goal is to stay positive and keep going, even when every step feels painful and tough,” he says.
As the challenge begins, Luca stresses that the campaign is about more than just physical achievement – it’s about bringing hope, spreading kindness, and making a real difference this Christmas.
“I hope this campaign inspires others to support Hospice Malta. I’m running seven marathons in seven days, and I know I’ll need to stay strong and push through when things get tough. But for those fighting cancer, the battle is not a choice. Let’s come together to help make their journey count,” Luca concludes.
