Gianluca Chetcuti wins second Trap Selection Shoot of the Season

Gianluca Chetcuti claimed victory at the second Trap Selection Shoot of the season, following two days of competition at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club.

Chetcuti secured first place after a strong performance in the final stages, finishing with a score of 43/50. James Galea Jr placed second overall with 40/50, while William Chetcuti completed the podium in third place with a score of 31/40.

The event brought together leading local trap shooters and was held over two days, with qualification rounds determining the six finalists. Based on qualification scores and shoot off results, the finalists were Nico Sciberras, Brian Galea, William Chetcuti, Gianluca Chetcuti, James Galea Jr and Ryan Bugeja.

In the qualification phase, Nico Sciberras recorded the highest score with 113/125. Brian Galea and William Chetcuti both finished on 110/125, with shoot off results determining their ranking order. Gianluca Chetcuti qualified with 109/125, while James Galea Jr and Ryan Bugeja both posted scores of 108/125, again separated by shoot offs.

Following the final rounds, the overall standings were confirmed with Gianluca Chetcuti in first place, James Galea Jr second and William Chetcuti third. Ryan Bugeja finished fourth, Nico Sciberras placed fifth and Brian Galea ended the competition in sixth position.

Class honours were also awarded. In Class A, Nico Sciberras took first place with 113/125, followed by Brian Galea and William Chetcuti, both with scores of 110/125. Class B was won by Abiel Cassar with 99/125, ahead of Gordon Caruana on 97 and Paul Formosa on 90. In Class C, Ryan Cini finished first with 86/125, while Michael Galea placed second with 63/125.

Attention now turns to the next event on the local shooting calendar, the Horace Micallef Trophy, which will take place on Sunday, 8th February 2026 at the Southern Shooting Club.
