Falcons and Flyers emerged as the main winners from last weekend’s key women’s volleyball fixtures, securing important victories in the Super League and the National Cup at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
In the Women’s Super League, Falcons produced a composed performance to defeat Birkirkara 3-1 in a closely contested encounter. The opening set proved decisive in setting the tone, with Falcons edging ahead 25-22 after a balanced start from both sides. Birkirkara responded strongly in the second set, imposing their rhythm to level the match with a 25-13 win.
Falcons regained control in the third set, maintaining their focus in the crucial points to secure a 25-22 victory. The fourth set followed a similar pattern, with both teams trading points throughout before Falcons sealed the match 25-23 to claim all three points.
Flyers also enjoyed success in the National Cup, progressing to the next round after a 3-0 win over Paola Executive Security. Despite the straight sets result, the match required sustained concentration from Flyers, particularly in the opening stages. The first set was settled by the narrowest of margins at 25-23, while the second set saw Flyers hold off a late challenge to prevail 26-24.
With a two set advantage, Flyers were more assertive in the third set, controlling proceedings to close out the match with a 25-15 win.
In the First Division, Mġarr continued their strong start to the season by maintaining their perfect record with a 3-0 victory over Birkirkara Reds. Mġarr dominated throughout the match, winning the sets 25-14, 25-16 and 25-11.
Youth competitions also produced clear results. In the Under 19 category, Depiro defeated Flyers 3-0. The Under 15 fixtures saw Swieqi Phoenix Young Stars beat Depiro Gold 3-0, Depiro Blue overcome Swieqi Phoenix Ninjas 3-0, and Flyers record a 3-1 win against Birkirkara.
These results underline the competitive depth across the women’s leagues and youth divisions, with several teams continuing to build momentum as the season progresses.
