The Authority for Integrity in Maltese Sport (AiMS) held its first-ever National consultation session on Safeguarding in Maltese Sport.
Led by AiMS Chairman Antonio Mizzi, the session brought together 14 organisations representing a broad cross-section of the sporting community including the Maltese Olympic Committee, the Malta Police Force, SportMalta, the Archdiocese of Malta, the Malta Sports Journalists Associations, IPES, the Foundation for Social Welfare Services, the MFA, ASA, MFCA, MFPA, MCAST and other National governing bodies considered as important key stakeholders in the subject.

Together these entities explored the current safeguarding landscape of Sport in Malta — identifying existing systems, practices, and policies, while clarifying the roles and responsibilities of different actors.
The intense session included also an interactive SWOT and gap mapping workshop, where participants uncovered shared challenges, overlapping responsibilities, and unmet needs across sectors. Through open discussion and collaboration now AiMS has began to map out key barriers and opportunities — laying the foundation for a strong, aligned national safeguarding framework.
In a social media post AiMS said that the ultimate goal in this initiative is to co-create practical and relevant safeguarding priorities that reflect the real needs of Malta’s sporting community.
This meeting marked a small but important step in Malta’s safeguarding journey whereby everyone is looking forward to building on this momentum.
