Six Maltese in the European Masters Snooker Championship

From Thursday, October 10 until Wednesday, October 23 in Albufiera, Portugal, the European Snooker Championship for different categories will be held. The first part, which starts tomorrow, will be the individual Masters competition while the teams Masters competition commence next Sunday.

For this phase, six Maltese players Ivan Attard, Alex Borg, Philip Ciantar, Arthur Cachia, Frans Mintoff and David Zammit travelled to Portugal and tomorrow four of them start their commitments while the other two begin on Friday. Alex Borg, tomorrow, on the first day, has to compete in two games.

For this individual Masters category, 78 players from 19 countries are registered while one player, who is the 81-year-old Ronnie Allen from Wales, will play on behalf of the World Disabled Snooker & Billiards whom during this championship will have a competition reserved for this category.

Other competitions during this European Championship will be the 6 Reds and the Shoot Out but the highlight of the second phase will be the Men’s Team Championship. In this category Alex Borg and Philip Ciantar will be joined later by the local champion, Aaron Busuttil, Chris Peplow, Joseph Casha and Isaac Borg. This phase starts on Sunday 20 October until the conclusion of the championship, on Wednesday, October 23. During this championship the Maltese contingent is led by the President of the Malta Billiards &  Snooker Association, Ivan Brincat.
