A day of triumphs and close calls at the Malta Snooker Academy

The Malta Snooker Academy witnessed an exciting day of competition on Wednesdat, as players from various divisions of the National Individual Snooker Championships took to the tables. With the 2024/2025 season in full swing, today’s results showcased a mix of dominant performances and closely contested encounters across five groups.

The standout match of the day came in the CE Installations Premier division, where Isaac Borg put on an impressive display, defeating Shaun Sultana 4-0 in the best of 7 frames. Borg’s clinical approach to the game left Sultana with little room to mount any significant challenge. With precise potting and exceptional positional play, Borg’s victory was a statement of intent for the rest of the tournament.

Over in the Goliath Coatings 1st Division, Nicky Spiteri was the one to shine. In a fast-paced best of 5 frames encounter, Spiteri comfortably overcame Arthur Chetcuti with a 3-0 scoreline. Despite Chetcuti’s best efforts, Spiteri’s break-building and consistency were too much to handle. The 3-0 victory secured Spiteri a valuable three points in the group stage, keeping him firmly in contention for the top spot.

In the 2nd Division, it was Caiden Casha who triumphed in a nail-biting match against Vincent Spiteri. Casha emerged victorious with a 3-1 win in a closely contested best of 5 frames match. Although Spiteri fought hard, Casha’s experience and ability to handle pressure in crucial moments proved to be the difference. With this win, Casha will look to continue his strong run as the competition progresses.

The 3rd Division match between Neville Decelis and Carmelo Bonnici was a thrilling encounter, with both players going toe to toe in a best of 5 frames battle. After an intense and back-and-forth contest, it was Decelis who managed to clinch the win with a narrow 3-2 scoreline. Bonnici’s resilience was evident, but Decelis held his nerve in the final frame, securing a crucial victory in a highly competitive division.

In the Masters Division, the day saw Clinton Falzon narrowly defeat Frans Abdilla 3-2 in a tense group stage clash. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with both players showing flashes of brilliance. Abdilla pushed Falzon to the limit, but Falzon’s superior tactical play in the final frame earned him the win. This victory was a significant boost for Falzon as he looks to challenge for a place at the top of the Masters group.

As the National Individual Snooker Championships continue, these results highlight the competitive nature of the event, with players from all divisions showing their skill and determination. Isaac Borg’s dominant performance in the Premier Division and the tightly contested battles in the lower divisions have set the stage for an exciting rest of the season.
