Maltese teams to participate in Pool World Championships

Malta will take part in the world championships of Pool which will be held in Blackpool, England, between the 18th and 27th of June. The three Maltese teams, sent by the Malta Pool Association, left Malta on Sunday, and will take part in the men’s categories, Under 18’s and Over 50’s.

The men’s team, which will be led by Carmel Cilia, will be composed of Clayton Castaldi, who will defend the title of world champion he won last year in Morocco, Gary Carr, Ryan Pisani, Owen Amato, Dejan Grech, Wayne Pace, Gilmoure Scicluna and Claudio Cassar.

The team of young people under the age of eighteen, who will be defending the title raised last year, will be composed of Steve Muscat, Nick Muscat, Jake Castaldi and Denzel Falzon while Noel Cassar will be in charge to lead the team.

The team of Maltese national team of the Over 50’s, led by Pasquale Sciberras, is made up of the players Manuel Mallia, Marco Bonello, Antoine Aquilina, Ray Caruana, Joe Camilleri and Marcel
Micallef.

Apart from the team championships each player will be engaged in the world individual championships, doubles competition as well as in a prestigious tournament called the World Masters Tournament.
Vincent Degiorgio, secretary of the Malta Pool Association as well as treasurer of the European and World federations, will be the officer in charge of the Maltese contingent.
