The race for the post of Secretary General of the Maltese Olympic Committee moved firmly into the spotlight on Wednesday morning as all three contenders appeared on Morning Mix on ONE tv for what was one of the final public discussions before voting takes place later today.
Joe Cassar, Dr Sue Mercieca and Jean Claude Micallef each set out their vision for the future of the MOC, with the debate centring on leadership, direction and the priorities needed to take the Committee forward in the coming years.
All three candidates were able to make their case, but Micallef appeared particularly assured in the way he communicated his proposals, often presenting his points in a direct and structured manner during the discussion.

The programme came at a key moment in the campaign, with various organisations within the MOC understood to have spent recent days weighing continuity against the prospect of a new direction. While there remains support in some quarters for experience and the old guard, there also appears to be a growing sense among others that the time may be right for fresh leadership.
Today’s election is expected to provide the answer. The winning candidate must secure at least 50 per cent of the vote to take the post. If none of the three contenders reaches that mark in the first round, the lowest placed candidate will be eliminated, leaving the contest to be decided in a second round between the remaining two.
With debate now over and decision time approaching, attention turns fully to the vote that will determine who will occupy one of the most important administrative roles within Maltese sport.
