The ANOC Executive Council has chosen Hong Kong, China, to host the 2026 ANOC General Assembly. This verdict was reached during a gathering in Cascais, just before the XXVII ANOC General Assembly commenced.
Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Hong Kong’s Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, alongside Kenneth Fox, Vice President of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee, Edgar Yeung, Honorary Secretary of the Hong Kong Olympic Committee, and Candy Nip, Principal Assistant Secretary for Culture, Sports, and Tourism Bureau, put forward a comprehensive proposal.
The team emphasised their dedication to organising an exceptional event for the ANOC community. The decision has been officially communicated to the General Assembly.
Introductory speeches were given by ANOC President Robin Mitchell, IOC President Thomas Bach, and Portuguese Olympic Committee President Artur Lopes, succeeded by a briefing on ANOC’s recent endeavours from Secretary General Gunilla Lindberg. Moreover, the Executive Council examined updates from each Continental Association.
Summaries from the ANOC Commissions were also presented in preparation for the General Assembly’s in-depth discussions on Thursday. The Event Commission’s report included updates on the ANOC World Beach Games and deliberations about potentially switching to a biannual schedule for the General Assembly.
ANOC President Robin Mitchell commented, “Today’s meeting was highly productive and showcased the diverse experience and expertise of our Executive Council members. There were a number of important debates and discussions that will inform our presentation to the General Assembly.
“We received a very strong proposal from our colleagues in Hong Kong and look forward to a very successful event in 2026. The General Assembly is unique in bringing the Olympic Movement together and we have no doubt Hong Kong will be an excellent host.”
The ANOC General Assembly commences tomorrow, followed by the ANOC Awards 2024 in the evening.
