Lando Norris has taken pole position for the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, giving McLaren their first pole in Austria in 25 years. His final lap of 1:03.971 was over half a second quicker than second-placed Charles Leclerc, the biggest gap seen in qualifying this season.
Norris had been fast all weekend and topped all three qualifying sessions. His McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri was third, just behind Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton had his best grid result for Ferrari in fourth.
Max Verstappen struggled and could only manage seventh, even finishing behind Liam Lawson, who put in an impressive drive to take sixth.
In Q2, the session was briefly stopped after Hamilton ran wide and caused a small fire on the grass. After the restart, Fernando Alonso just missed out on Q3, finishing 11th.

Q1 saw more surprises as Yuki Tsunoda was knocked out early, despite being less than three-tenths slower than Verstappen. Lance Stroll, Esteban Ocon, Carlos Sainz, and Nico Hulkenberg were also eliminated.
Norris will now look to turn this pole into a win, as he continues an excellent season for McLaren.
