In an exclusive interview with RacingNews365, former F1 driver Johnny Herbert shared his thoughts on Christian Horner’s recent departure from Red Bull.
Christian Horner, who had been team principal for more than 20 years, was announced to be leaving the team on Wednesday.
Herbert feels Horner’s tough last 18 months, after being cleared of allegations by a female employee, played a part in his decision to step down.
Even though Horner has left, Herbert believes Max Verstappen will soon make a surprise switch to Mercedes, a move that has been heavily rumoured lately.
“I don’t think this comes as a shock to anyone,” Herbert said. “When these rumours started, even the Ford Motor Company wasn’t happy. Christian stuck around for a while, but this was always going to be a problem.

“It might also have something to do with Max. Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, was very vocal about not wanting Christian around. So it seems likely that Max will end up at Mercedes.
“This probably isn’t a big surprise given everything with Christian.”
