This Saturday, reigning champions and current league leaders, Hamrun Spartans, will face Birkirkara in what promises to be an exciting 360Sports Malta Premier League encounter.
The two teams last met in the Opening Round Top 6 match, where Hamrun emerged victorious with a 2-0 win.
Ahead of the match, Hamrun Spartans’ Head Coach, Alessando Zinnari, spoke about the tough challenge Birkirkara will present, especially after the club strengthened its squad in the January transfer window. Zinnari praised his team’s growing consistency and balance, pointing out that, despite injuries hindering their progress, the squad is now in a stronger position heading into the most crucial phase of the league season.
“We have become more consistent, and the squad has gelled well,” Zinnari said. “We have also seen great contributions from our younger players, laying a solid foundation for both themselves and the club’s future.” He also expressed gratitude to the club’s administration for their efforts in strengthening the team during the transfer window.

Spartans’ player, Emerson Marcelina, highlighted the team’s improved competitiveness with more players returning from injury. “Now that most of our injured players are back, we are more competitive,” Marcelina said. “We’re helping our new signings, like our Bolivian recruit, adjust to Maltese football and culture. It’s not always easy for foreign players to settle, but we will support him.”
On the other side, Birkirkara’s Head Coach, Stefano De Angelis, acknowledged the importance of Saturday’s match. “It will be a difficult test for both teams,” De Angelis said. “We treat every game like a final, and we’re pleased with the key signings we made in January to keep the team competitive. Having Gaitan back after two months is a big boost for us.”
De Angelis emphasized that even though Birkirkara has already secured a spot in the Final Four, there is no room for complacency. “We need to stay focused and win as many matches as possible,” he said. “The team’s overall quality has improved, and we look ahead with more confidence after a challenging January period of integrating new players.”

Birkirkara captain, Alex Satariano, reflected on the team’s recent improvement in play. “We are showing more quality and fighting spirit as a team now,” he said. “The coach has made a big difference, and I feel more confident in my role as captain. Having quality players around me makes it easier to express myself on the pitch.”
With the Spartans aiming to maintain their lead at the top of the table and Birkirkara seeking to bounce back from recent draws, this fixture is shaping up to be a crucial step in both teams’ season aspirations.
