Matthew Guillaumier’s future remains uncertain as the January transfer window progresses, with a return to the YoHealth Malta Premier League not appearing imminent at this stage.
Malta Sport understands that, at the time of writing, no Maltese club has met the financial demands set by Guillaumier’s representatives. Sources close to both Valletta and Ħamrun Spartans have confirmed that discussions have stalled due to the midfielder’s wage expectations.
Guillaumier, who had been playing in Greece with Panserraikos before becoming a free agent, is understood to have been on a substantially higher salary than what local clubs can currently accommodate. His camp is seeking a package comparable to his earnings abroad, a request that has so far proven to be a major stumbling block despite strong interest in the Malta international.
As a result, the player is continuing to await a suitable offer from overseas, where meeting such financial terms may be more realistic. However, with a short transfer window in January, the situation risks developing into a prolonged transfer saga.
While interest in Guillaumier remains alive both locally and internationally, no breakthrough appears imminent, leaving his next move unresolved as clubs carefully assess their options and budgets for the remainder of the window.
