360Sports Malta Premier, Closing Round, 1st Phase
Gozo Stadium, Xewkija 29.03.2025
Floriana…………… 1
Hibernians………. 1
Franklin Sasere 7’, Bjorn Kristensen 78’
Floriana were looking to end their 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round 1st Phase commitments with a win against Hibernians to keep in touch with Birkirkara at the top. The Paolites were also looking for a positive result in the hope of keeping their faint hopes alive to pip for the top spot although that was a tall order.
It was the Greens who took the lead after just 7 minutes when Franklin Sasere sprang the offside trap to slip the ball past Pablo Sanchez. The rest of the half did not have much goalmouth action although there were no less than 7 yellow cards given as the game was played in fits and starts.
Floriana missed a glorious chance on 51 minutes when Jake grech was in the clear but his pass to Elvis Mahsike to tap in was somehow intercepted. Hibernians replied with a fine effort by Felicio Carvalho which was saved by Henri Mafoumbi.
Floriana were dangerous on the breakaway but somehow the Hibs defence always managed to counter the Greens’ threat. On 74 minutes, Hibs came close with Federico Falcone smashing a long-range effort just wide. Three minutes later, the Paolites equalised after a fine cross into the box found captain Bjorn Kristensen who slotted home from a few yards. The match continued entertainingly with chances at both ends but in the end, a draw was a fair result.
