UEFA Conference League – League Phase
Jagiellonia Białystok…….1
Ħamrun Spartans………....0
At the Miejski Stadium in Białystok, Ħamrun Spartans started off their UEFA Conference League league phase with a 1-0 loss to Jagiellonia Białystok. It was a very good display by the Spartans, especially in the first half, but all changed in the second 45 minutes when the Maltese champions conceded after a mistake at the back, and shortly after they went down to ten men when Joseph Mbong got sent off in the 62nd minute.
In the first half, Ħamrun produced a very good display and even had goal opportunities through Koffi and Thioune, but their best chance came from Coric, who saw his left-footed shot saved brilliantly into a corner by goalkeeper Abrmowicz.
In the 38th minute, the hosts thought they went ahead when Imaz scored from close range, but after a long VAR review, the goal was disallowed for a foul by Pululu on Polito.
Jagiellonia came out more aggressively in the 2nd half, and on the 57th minute, they went ahead after a mistake at the back from Ħamrun, with Pululu taking possession and giving it to Jesus Imaz, who placed the ball from the edge of the box.
Things became more complicated for Ħamrun on the 62nd minute when Joseph Mbong got sent off for a foul on Jagiellonia captain Taras Romanczuk.
During injury time, Bonello made another great save by stopping Rallis’ shot.
Ħamrun Spartans had the final chance of the match when Polito got on the end of Coric’s free-kick but headed it over the bar.
