Bayern Munich maintained their perfect start to the season with a commanding 5-1 win over Pafos at the Alphamega Stadium in the UEFA Champions League.
The visitors set the tone early. Luis Díaz was denied at close range by Neofytos Michail, and Harry Kane struck a post with an acrobatic effort before opening the scoring, finishing first time into the far corner after Michael Olise slipped him through. Raphaël Guerreiro made it two, lifting a deft finish over Michail to cap a slick passing move, and Nicolas Jackson soon added a third by sweeping in another precise pass from Olise for his first Bayern goal.
Pafos briefly threatened when Jajá broke clear, only to fire straight at Manuel Neuer. Bayern punished the reprieve within moments as Kane weaved into the area and clipped home his second to make it four. The hosts salvaged a moment to cheer before the interval when, after Michail smothered a Díaz effort, Kim Min Jae’s loose pass fell to Mislav Oršić, who thundered a superb strike into the top corner from distance.
Pafos began the second half brightly, but Bayern’s control soon reasserted itself. Michail produced fine saves from Olise and Aleksandar Pavlović, with Joshua Kimmich heading the rebound from the latter just wide. Jackson then raced in behind and drew another sharp stop, only for Olise to dispatch the loose ball into the top corner. Bayern continued to create and struck the woodwork twice late on through Serge Gnabry and Jackson, but five proved ample on a dominant night.
After a spirited draw at Olympiacos with ten men on matchday one, Pafos were handed a reminder of the steep Champions League learning curve as their four-match unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end. Bayern, meanwhile, remain unbeaten in their last sixteen Champions League fixtures against first-time opponents and have now scored in both halves in every match this season.
