Feyenoord managed to come back from behind and secure a 1-1 draw against AC Milan on Tuesday, thanks to a goal scored by substitute Julian Carranza. This victory gave them a 2-1 aggregate win in the playoffs and secured their spot in the Champions League last 16. However, the hosts suffered a setback as Theo Hernandez was sent off.
Milan’s Santiago Gimenez, who previously played for Feyenoord, opened the scoring in the second leg, bringing the aggregate score level. Despite creating numerous opportunities, the home team was unable to take the lead before half-time.
In the second half, Hernandez received his second yellow card for simulation and was dismissed. In the 73rd minute, Carranza’s header found the back of the net, equalising the score for Feyenoord and sending San Siro into shock, ultimately knocking out the Italian club from the competition.
Feyenoord’s next opponent in the last 16 will either be Inter Milan or Arsenal, to be decided in Friday’s draw.
