Serie A approves new rules for postponed matches in 2025/26 Season

The Lega Serie A Council has approved a key amendment to the regulations governing the rescheduling of postponed or interrupted matches in the 2025/2026 Serie A and Primavera 1 seasons.

Under the new rule, matches that do not start as scheduled must be played the following day, unless prevented by specific circumstances such as adverse weather conditions, international breaks, closely scheduled fixtures, or disciplinary sanctions.

The same rule applies to interrupted matches, which will resume only for the remaining minutes and from the exact point at which play was suspended.

If it is not possible to play the match the following day, the game will be rescheduled for the earliest available date that does not conflict with other commitments or fall within a FIFA international window.

For resumed matches, only players who were registered with the clubs at the time of interruption may participate, excluding those who have since been released, suspended, or sent off. Each team may register up to three new players, and substitutions made before the interruption will remain valid.

This regulatory update aims to streamline match scheduling and maintain competitive fairness throughout the season.
