Monza sack manager Alessandro Nesta after disastrous Serie A start

Monza have parted ways with manager Alessandro Nesta following a torrid start to their Serie A campaign, which sees them rooted to the bottom of the table.

The former Italian international took charge in the summer but has struggled to turn the team’s fortunes around, securing just one win in their opening 17 matches. Monza’s most recent outing, a 3-0 defeat to Lecce, proved to be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy.

In a brief statement, Monza thanked Nesta for his efforts but cited the need for “immediate results” to salvage their season. “The club has taken the decision to make a managerial change in order to provide fresh impetus to the team,” the statement read.

Nesta, who previously managed in Serie B with Frosinone and Perugia, was tasked with stabilising Monza after their first-ever Serie A campaign last year. However, injuries, inconsistent performances, and a lack of cohesion on the pitch have left the club floundering.

Monza are now reportedly eyeing experienced names to steer them away from relegation, with rumours linking former Verona assistant coach Salvatore Bochetti is the favourite to replace Nesta.

The pressure will be on for the next manager to turn things around quickly, as Monza face a crucial run of fixtures in January, including clashes against fellow strugglers Genoa and Cagliari.

Fans, who had high hopes for the club under Nesta’s leadership, will be hoping for swift action and better results to ensure their Serie A status.
