Genoa extended their unbeaten home record against Lecce to 10 matches with a well-earned 2-1 victory at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, further solidifying their mid-table standing in Serie A.
With a strong head-to-head advantage, Genoa entered the match determined to build momentum for a top-half finish—and they wasted no time making their mark. Just 16 minutes in, Ruslan Malinovskyi lofted a perfectly weighted pass into the box, where Fabio Miretti timed his run to perfection, controlling the ball before volleying past Wladimiro Falcone to open the scoring in spectacular fashion. Brimming with confidence, Miretti nearly doubled Genoa’s lead minutes later, curling a right-footed effort just wide of the post.
Despite their struggles on the road against stronger opposition, Lecce showed attacking intent in the first half. However, their lack of precision in the final third proved costly, and they were made to pay just before the break. Another dangerous delivery into the box found Miretti, who executed a slick turn to outmaneuver Frédéric Guilbert before slotting home his second goal with a composed left-footed finish.
The second goal seemed to put Genoa in firm control, with Lecce finding it difficult to carve out clear chances. A league-low 10 of Lecce’s Serie A matches this season had seen both teams score—an ominous sign for the visitors. However, they were handed a lifeline with 25 minutes remaining when substitute Danilo Veiga’s mis-hit shot struck Alan Matturro’s arm, prompting a VAR review and a penalty. Nikola Krstović made no mistake from the spot, pulling Lecce back into the game.
Despite a tense finale, the visitors failed to create any real threat, managing just one shot on target all night. As a result, Genoa preserved their 27-year unbeaten home streak against Lecce, setting themselves up for a comfortable conclusion to the season. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi remain precariously close to the relegation zone, just three points above the drop.
