Juventus has expressed its heartfelt condolences following the passing of Salvatore Giglio, the club’s official photographer for twenty-five years.
“Through his lens,” reads the club’s official statement, “he captured iconic moments from our history: two million photographs in his archives, most of which tell the story of us and the champions who wore this jersey. He followed Juventus for a thousand matches, a milestone he reached in 1998. His story is inextricably intertwined with ours.”
Among Giglio’s most famous photographs are the powerful image of Michel Platini lying on the ground in protest after a disallowed goal during the 1985 Intercontinental Cup final in Tokyo, and the haunting photos he took at the Heysel Stadium disaster on May 29, 1985, during the European Cup final between Juventus and Liverpool.
Giglio’s work not only chronicled the triumphs and tragedies of Juventus but also left a lasting visual legacy that will forever be part of the club’s history.
