Fiorentina stormed into Serie A’s top four with a convincing 3-0 victory over Inter Milan, handing Simone Inzaghi’s side only their second league defeat of the season. The match resumed from the 17th minute after it was previously abandoned in December due to Edoardo Bove’s on-field cardiac arrest.
Inter initially looked sharper, with Lautaro Martinez testing David de Gea early on and Luca Ranieri making a crucial block to deny Alessandro Bastoni. The Nerazzurri thought they had taken the lead at the half-hour mark when Carlos Augusto tucked home Bastoni’s looping pass, but VAR ruled it offside, leaving Inter frustrated.
The disallowed goal jolted Fiorentina into action. Minutes later, Fabiano Parisi delivered a pinpoint cross to Moise Kean, but Yann Sommer managed a crucial save to keep the scoreline level. Kean had another chance soon after, setting up Dodo, who dragged his shot wide despite being one-on-one with Sommer.
The breakthrough came in the 60th minute. Rolando Mandragora’s corner found Luca Ranieri, who volleyed it into the bottom corner for his first league goal of the season. Moments later, Ranieri was back in the spotlight with another crucial block to deny Martinez.
Fiorentina capitalized on their momentum five minutes later. Dodo delivered a precise cross to the back post, where Kean nodded the ball past Sommer to double La Viola’s lead.
Inter tried to respond, but their efforts lacked the finishing touch. Nicolo Barella’s long-range attempt and Marko Arnautovic’s failure to convert from close range summed up their frustrations.
Fiorentina sealed the victory in the final minute of regulation time when Kean capitalized on a poor backpass, calmly slotting the ball past an out-of-position Sommer.
With this win, Fiorentina extended their unbeaten run to four matches. Meanwhile, Inter’s first league loss since September meant they missed a golden opportunity to top the table on goal difference.
