Genoa have ended their relationship with Patrick Vieira, confirming that the coach has left with immediate effect after stepping aside on Friday. The club issued an official statement thanking Vieira and his staff for their professionalism and wishing them well for the future.
In the interim, first team duties have been handed to Roberto Murgita, supported by Domenico Criscito. The pair will lead the team for the match against Sassuolo, with Criscito already set to direct today’s training session.
Genoa are bottom of Serie A with three points from nine matches, after three draws and six defeats, the latest a home loss to Cremonese. Vieira arrived on 21 November 2024 as successor to Alberto Gilardino.
Attention now turns to the search for a permanent head coach. Early candidates under consideration include Paolo Vanoli, Daniele De Rossi and Luca Gotti. The change follows a wider shake up at the club after the departure of sporting director Marco Ottolini and the anticipated arrival of Diego Lopez as the new director of sport.
