Fiorentina vs Inter when will the match be rescheduled?

The much-anticipated Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Inter, was suspended last Sunday due to a medical emergency involving Edoardo Bove, the player collapsed and lost consciousness in the 17th minute.

Lega Serie A now faces the challenge of finding a suitable date for its resumption. With both teams navigating a packed schedule of league, European, and Coppa Italia commitments, the match is unlikely to take place before 2025.

How Does the Match Restart?

When the match resumes, it will pick up from the 17th minute, with managers restricted to players registered at the time of the original game. This includes players who were unavailable due to injury but excludes any new arrivals during the January transfer window. Substitutes, suspended players, or those who were sent off before the interruption will also be ineligible, though no cards or substitutions occurred before the suspension.

The initial discussions within the Lega Serie A suggest early January as a potential window for the match. However, this hinges on Inter’s Supercoppa Italiana commitments in Riyadh. Should Simone Inzaghi’s side reach the final, scheduled for 6 January, logistical challenges including long-haul travel back to Italy would make it difficult to squeeze in the fixture during that period.

If January proves unfeasible, February emerges as the more realistic option, much like Bologna vs Milan was rescheduled last season due to adverse weather. If both Fiorentina and Inter secure direct qualification to the Round of 16 in their respective European competitions Conference League and Champions League they could potentially use the weeks of 12 and 19 February to complete the match. However, such scenarios remain speculative until the conclusion of their European group stages in January.

Adding to the intrigue, Inter and Fiorentina are already slated to face each other in Serie A on 9 February, which could make scheduling even more complex.

The Lega Serie A council meeting will address this scheduling conundrum in greater detail, but for now, both clubs must juggle their priorities. With Fiorentina and Inter battling on multiple fronts, clarity on their European trajectories could prove decisive in determining when this match critical for their Serie A campaigns will finally take place.
