Fiorentina tighten security measures after players and families receive threats

Fiorentina have moved to reinforce security around the club after players, staff members and their families were subjected to threatening messages in the aftermath of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo, a result that left the Viola winless after fourteen Serie A matches and rooted to the bottom of the table.

The club confirmed that it has already contacted the relevant authorities and is cooperating fully as investigations begin. Fiorentina described the threats as “unacceptable and shameful”, stressing that neither the team nor their loved ones should ever be targeted for what happens on the pitch.

In a strongly worded statement published on their official website, the club expressed solidarity with all affected individuals and made clear that such behaviour crosses every possible line.

“ACF Fiorentina, while thanking the many supporters who have already shown affection and support regarding these regrettable events, reiterates that there will never be any room for intimidation, hatred or violence,” the statement read. “Behaviour of this kind has no place in football or in any area of our society.”

The Florence side are enduring one of the most difficult spells in their recent history. Fourteen league games have now passed without victory, leaving them bottom of Serie A and facing a growing backlash from frustrated sections of the fan base. The weekend defeat to Sassuolo, in which Fiorentina briefly levelled the score before collapsing in the final half hour, only intensified the pressure on a squad already low on confidence.

Club sources insist that while criticism and disappointment from supporters are understandable, the escalation into personal threats is completely intolerable. Measures have been taken to protect players’ homes, strengthen matchday operations at the training centre and monitor online activity targeting individuals associated with the club.

Authorities are said to be reviewing the most serious cases, with perpetrators facing potential criminal action. Fiorentina officials have urged calm within the fan community and encouraged supporters to rally behind the team rather than deepen the crisis.

Attention now turns to Thursday’s Europa Conference League fixture, where the Viola host Dynamo Kyiv at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Despite their domestic struggles, European competition offers a chance to reset and build some momentum ahead of Sunday’s crucial Serie A encounter with Hellas Verona.

With results on the pitch yet to turn and tensions rising off it, Fiorentina’s leadership emphasises that unity and safety must remain the priority. The message from the club is clear: passion is welcome, but violence and intimidation will never be tolerated.
