ACF Fiorentina are still looking for their first Serie A win of the season after losing 3-1 to Sassuolo at the MAPEI Stadium, continuing a very difficult 2025/26 campaign.
Fiorentina started the game well and were awarded a penalty early on when Fabiano Parisi was clearly fouled by Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Murić inside the box. Rolando Mandragora scored from the spot to put the Viola ahead in the ninth minute, marking his fourth Serie A goal of the season. However, Sassuolo quickly responded when Cristian Volpato’s long-range shot somehow slipped past David de Gea to level the score.
The rest of the first half was scrappy with few clear chances. Just before half-time, Sassuolo went ahead when a corner from Armand Laurienté was bundled in by Tarik Muharemović, sending the home fans into a frenzy.
In the second half, Sassuolo looked to extend their lead, and Volpato scored in the 57th minute, but the goal was ruled out for a foul in the build-up, angering the Sassuolo coach Fabio Grosso, who was later sent off for dissent.
Sassuolo continued to dominate as Fiorentina struggled with confidence. In the 65th minute, Canadian international Ismaël Koné scored the third goal after taking advantage of poor defending. Fiorentina failed to register a single shot on target in the second half, a worrying sign for their supporters.
The win lifts Sassuolo to eighth in the Serie A table, marking a strong return to the top flight, while Fiorentina have now gone nine games without a win in all competitions and sit at the bottom of the league. Their next Serie A match is crucial, a home game against Hellas Verona on Sunday 14th December.
