Fiorentina have officially completed the permanent signing of Icelandic forward Albert Gudmundsson from Genoa, striking a discounted deal worth €13 million, significantly less than the €17 million plus bonuses initially agreed upon in last summer’s loan arrangement.
The 27-year-old had joined the Viola on a paid loan last season, costing the club €8 million. After a season marred by injuries but not without promise — tallying eight goals and three assists in 33 appearances — Gudmundsson has signed a contract until 2029. Speaking after the announcement, the forward expressed his joy at remaining in Florence.
“I’m very happy to continue wearing the Viola shirt and to officially be a Fiorentina player,” Gudmundsson said. “I strongly wanted this agreement to happen, and thank the club and its management for making it possible. While the Gudmundsson deal provides stability in attack, Fiorentina face a major test in keeping hold of striker Moise Kean. Saudi club Al-Qadsiah, who boast stars like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nahitan Nández, have submitted a lucrative proposal that includes paying Kean’s €52 million release clause — active from 1 to 15 July — and offering him a reported salary of €12 to €13 million net per season.
Kean, a central figure in Italy’s plans under Gennaro Gattuso and fresh from a strong season in Florence, has also drawn interest from Manchester United and AC Milan. The latter could be a particularly intriguing destination, given his strong relationship with former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, who remains an admirer.
With the transfer window heating up, Fiorentina have secured one key asset but may be on the verge of losing another.
