Dybala undergoes successful surgery but will miss the rest of the season

Paulo Dybala’s season looks to be all but over after the Roma star underwent successful surgery on a thigh injury, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

In an official statement, Roma assured fans that the operation on Dybala’s left thigh went smoothly and that the Argentine forward will soon begin rehabilitation. “The surgical procedure undergone today… was perfectly successful,” the club announced, adding that rehab is set to start in the coming days.

The injury occurred earlier this month during Roma’s narrow 1-0 win over Cagliari in Serie A — a victory overshadowed by Dybala’s early exit. While the club did not give a timeline for his return, with just nine league games left, it’s widely expected that Dybala won’t feature again until next season.

The news couldn’t have come at a worse time for Claudio Ranieri’s side. Since the veteran coach returned in November, Roma have transformed from relegation candidates to one of the league’s most in-form teams, now pushing hard for a Champions League spot. They currently sit just four points behind fourth-placed Bologna.

Dybala has been central to this turnaround, contributing eight goals and four assists in all competitions this season. His absence will leave a noticeable gap as Roma head into the decisive final stretch.
