Como achieved their first back-to-back Serie A home wins in 36 years with a 2-0 victory over Lecce, moving above them in the table. The last time they managed this was in 1988, after beating Lecce in the same way.
Both teams were motivated after defeats for the bottom three clubs in Serie A over the weekend, but it was Como who responded strongest early on. Patrick Cutrone struck the crossbar with a 25-yard shot in the first five minutes. Como were awarded a penalty in the 30th minute when Lecce captain Federico Baschirotto fouled Cutrone. However, Nico Paz’s penalty was saved by Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone.
Falcone continued to impress, stopping several shots, including a powerful free-kick from Paz. Lecce struggled to threaten, managing only one shot on target before half-time, leaving the score level at the break.
In the second half, Paz finally broke the deadlock, finishing a clever pass from Cutrone off the post. Despite a disallowed goal from Cutrone and a clearance off the line from Lassana Coulibaly, Como extended their lead when Cutrone scored from close range after a save.
Lecce failed to add to their league-low two away goals, and Como’s performance will leave fans optimistic about their Serie A future. The club’s owners, the wealthiest in Italy, were joined by Dele Alli in the stands amid rumours of his signing.
